Middle school student accused of attacking, injuring classmate with weapon in Ansan
Police said the suspect assaulted his classmate "because he felt upset."
Police apprehended a middle school student who allegedly attacked a classmate with a weapon in Ansan, Gyeonggi, on Tuesday.
The incident occurred at about 10:20 a.m. at a middle school in Ansan's Danwon District when a second-year middle school student allegedly swung a weapon at a classmate in the same grade.
The victim suffered injuries to the face and forearm and was taken to a nearby hospital. The injuries were reported to be non-life-threatening.
After receiving a report from the school, police officers were dispatched to the scene and apprehended the student.
According to police, the student attacked his classmate because he "felt upset."
Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident by questioning the student and school officials.
Once the investigation is completed, police plan to refer the student to the juvenile division of the family court.
Under the Juvenile Act, children aged 10 or older and under 14 are classified as juvenile offenders and are exempt from criminal punishment.
