Girl group Rescene is appointed as the tourism ambassador of Gyeongju on June 29.

Girl group Rescene was named Gyeongju's tourism ambassador, thanks to the group's own "Silla Princess."

The historic city in North Gyeongsang appointed the five-member group on Monday as Gyeongju's tourism ambassador, promoting the city in Korea and abroad.

Rescene's Zena, born in Gyeongju and nicknamed Silla Princess, was one of the reasons why the group was chosen to represent the city.

"We chose Rescene as an ambassador that offers both local roots and broad popular appeal because [the group has] Zena, who is from Gyeongju," the city said in a press release Monday.

An official appointment ceremony will be held at a later date.

This marks the girl group's third city ambassador role, followed by Suwon, Gyeonggi and Geoje, South Gyeongsang.

"I hope Rescene, with its young and fresh appeal, will become a reliable ambassador who spreads Gyeongju's history, culture and tourism far and wide, at home and abroad," Mayor Joo Nak-young said.
